The Natural Pool (Piscina Natural)
Not every San Blas stop is an island — the Natural Pool is a sandbar rising out of open water, shallow enough to stand in comfortably while the sea stretches out around you in every direction. It’s one of the most consistently included stops across San Blas itineraries, and for good reason.
What makes it different
Rather than a beach you walk onto, the Natural Pool is something you wade into from the boat — waist-deep water over pale sand, with the horizon open on all sides. It’s calm, easy for any skill level, and one of the few spots in San Blas where seeing starfish on the sea floor is a near-guaranteed part of the stop (observe them gently in the water — never lift them out).
Why it’s on almost every itinerary
The Natural Pool appears in both the Classic and VIP day tours, and it’s also the standard highlight of the “Tour de Islas” included in every overnight cabin stay (visited the morning after Cayos Limones, on Day 2 of a typical 2-day/1-night package). Its combination of calm water, easy access, and reliable starfish sightings makes it one of the most photographed single stops in San Blas — often even more than a specific island.
Good to know
- Best for: families, non-swimmers (you can stand the whole time), photos, starfish sightings.
- Facilities: none — it’s open water, not an island with shade or facilities. Sun protection matters more here than almost anywhere else on the trip.
- Route note: like all San Blas stops, inclusion depends on the day’s route and conditions, though it’s one of the most consistently visited spots across tour types.
