Best Time to Visit San Blas

San Blas is beautiful year-round, and tours operate every day of the year — but the two seasons do feel different, and knowing which one you’re booking into helps set expectations.

Dry season (December–April)

This is peak season, and for good reason: skies are clearer, rain is rare, and the Caribbean light on the water is at its best for photos. It’s also the busiest stretch, so if you’re set on a specific date, book ahead.

Rainy season (May–November)

Rain in San Blas tends to arrive in short bursts rather than settling in for the whole day — think a heavy 20-minute shower followed by sun, more often than an all-day washout. The archipelago is noticeably quieter, and the islands stay just as green and the water just as warm.

Does weather ever cancel a tour?

If conditions are genuinely unsafe, the operator reschedules or fully refunds the trip — safety takes priority over the schedule. Ordinary rain does not cancel a tour; boats and islands operate normally through short tropical showers.

Bottom line

If clear skies for photos are your top priority, aim for December–April. If you’d rather avoid crowds and don’t mind the occasional short shower, the rest of the year works just as well — San Blas doesn’t really have a bad time to visit.
