The Best Beaches in San Blas
Every San Blas island has a beach — but “which one is actually best” depends entirely on what you’re after. Here’s a curated shortlist, pulled from our full islands guide, organized by what each one does best.
Best for snorkeling: Perro Chico
The shallow, snorkel-friendly shipwreck reef at Perro Chico is the single most requested stop on San Blas itineraries — easy enough for beginners, rewarding enough for experienced snorkelers.
Best postcard beach: Chichime
Two palm-lined cays separated by a wadeable channel, Chichime is the most photographed stretch of sand in the archipelago for a reason — powder-white sand and water that shifts from pale turquoise to deep blue within a few steps.
Best for families: Isla Aguja
Calm, shallow water close to the mainland embarkation point makes Isla Aguja the easiest option for young kids or nervous swimmers.
Best for island-hopping: Limones Cays
If you want to see several distinct beaches in one afternoon rather than settle on one, the Limones Cays let you swim off one cay and re-board for a five-minute ride to the next.
Best for space to spread out: Perro Grande
Most San Blas cays are tiny — Perro Grande is a genuine exception, with wide stretches of white sand that don’t feel shared with the whole boat.
Best for a quieter, more premium stop: Isla Pelícano
Further out toward the Dutch Cays, Isla Pelícano sees fewer boats and clearer water — plus its cameo in Netflix’s Money Heist.
How to actually visit these beaches
None of these beaches are independently accessible — they’re reached exclusively by boat from the Carti embarkation point, as part of an organized day tour or overnight stay. Which beaches a specific tour visits depends on the day’s route and conditions (see our tours page for what each package typically includes).
