Ask any San Blas guide which reef has the best snorkeling, and Cayos Holandeses comes up first. It’s the farthest point most tours reach — a turquoise lagoon protected by a ring of coral, deliberately positioned away from the busier, closer-in cays.

Distance is exactly what protects it — fewer boats make the longer crossing, which means less traffic on the reef and noticeably better-preserved coral than closer, more heavily visited spots. It’s the tour to choose specifically if snorkel quality, not island scenery, is your priority.

• Earlier departure — pickup starts around 4:30 AM, earlier than the standard 5:00–5:45 AM for other day tours.
