Remote Work Island Escape
An honest look at working from San Blas — and why it's harder than the photos suggest
- Realistic connectivity conversation first
- Flexible daily schedule around work hours
- Quieter islands with less boat noise
- Multi-day stay to justify the setup
We’d rather talk you out of this than oversell it: most San Blas islands have weak or no cell signal, and there’s no dedicated coworking infrastructure. If your job needs reliable video calls every day, this is not the trip for that — a short vacation with real time off is a better fit.
What’s actually realistic
Some islands closer to the mainland, like Isla Aguja, have marginally better connectivity than the remote outer cays — “marginally better” still means intermittent, not reliable. If your work involves async tasks, writing, or occasional check-ins rather than constant calls, a longer stay (we cap this at 4 days/3 nights) with a flexible daily schedule can work: mornings for whatever connectivity allows, the rest of the day off.
Talk to us first
Tell us exactly what your work actually requires — hours of video calls, or a few emails a day — and we’ll tell you honestly whether San Blas fits or whether you’d be better off treating this as a real vacation instead. We’re not going to promise a “digital nomad paradise” that doesn’t match the reality here.
