San Blas Overnight Stays — 5 Cabin Types Explained

A day tour shows you San Blas. Staying overnight lets you actually live in it — sunrise and sunset over the same stretch of sand, a sky full of stars with zero light pollution, and an evening around a fire with the Guna family hosting you. Stays run 1 to 3 nights maximum, booked by cabin type, not by a specific named island — most San Blas islands offer near-identical cabins within each category, and the exact island is confirmed closer to your date based on availability.

The 5 cabin types

  • Hostal Isleño — shared dormitory, the most budget-friendly way to stay overnight and meet other travelers.
  • Cabaña Privada Clásica — a private, simple beachfront cabin for couples or small groups who want their own space without the premium price.
  • Cabaña Privada Deluxe — a step up in comfort from the Classic, still private, still beachfront.
  • Camping Bajo las Estrellas (“Camping Under the Stars”) — for travelers who want the most direct connection to the island, sleeping under an open sky.
  • Cabaña Overwater — the premium option, built out over the water itself.

Exact pricing (first night, additional nights, deposit) is confirmed by a real person over WhatsApp based on your dates — we don’t list it here since rates and availability shift.

What’s included in every cabin type

  • ✅ Round-trip 4x4 transport from your Panama City accommodation
  • ✅ Boat transfers
  • ✅ Your chosen cabin
  • ✅ Full meals — breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • ✅ A tour to 2 additional islands
  • ✅ A stop at the Natural Pool
  • ✅ A local Guna guide

Not included: drinks and snacks, alcoholic beverages, the Guna Yala community tax (paid separately, in cash), snorkel gear, and personal items like towels or soap.

Sample itinerary (2 days / 1 night)

  • Day 1: 5:00–5:45 AM pickup in Panama City → 8:30 AM arrival in Carti → 9:30 AM arrival at the island, cabin check-in → 12:30 PM traditional Guna lunch → free afternoon → 6:00 PM traditional Guna dinner.
  • Day 2: 7:00 AM breakfast → 7:45 AM island tour (Limones Cays, shipwreck snorkel) → 8:30 AM Natural Pool → 9:30 AM return to the island, check-out → 10:00 AM boat back to Carti → arrival in Panama City around 1:00–1:30 PM.

Longer stays (3 or 4 days) follow the same rhythm with an extra free day in the middle — a good time to add the optional 3-island add-on tour.

Good to know

  • Minimum 3 days’ advance booking required to confirm cabin availability.
  • Late check-out (until 3:00–3:30 PM instead of 8:30 AM) is available for a small per-person fee.
  • Children under 4 stay free; the tool always has the current child rate for each cabin type.
